Intermingling Spaces (2023)
This project uncovers the subtle changes and profound implications of merging personal space with others. Every weekend, I select a friend's house as my subject, entering and
"invading" their space with their permission. Simultaneously, I also open my space to be 'invaded', welcoming friends into my personal environment. This process captures not only the physical transformation of the spaces but also the intricate dynamics often overlooked in interpersonal relationships.
I document my friends' living spaces, and my own, in layers, from the overall view of the entire room to the detailed features of furniture and decorations. All of which provide a candid portrayal of our lives. When I incorporate myself into these settings, and others into mine, spaces and items gain new meanings and emotions.
I delve further by recording my friends' reactions to me "invading" their space and their impact on mine, noting changes in habits during this process.
"Intermingling Spaces" challenges the traditional understanding of personal space, prompting viewers to consider how we navigate the boundaries of self and others, personal space, and shared space in modern society. This project is my exploration of modern interpersonal relationships and spatial perceptions, as well as my contemplation of human nature, society, and life.
